Five for Fall
Posted September 27, 2007
This weekend is the first official weekend of autumn, which means fall fests will be in full swing. Though you won't be able to see a whole lot of leaves changing colors yet, you can get into the spirit with these five events (and you don't even have to rake!). Get 'yer coat and get ready for the season.

1. Lincoln Park Fall Festival -- Toast the season with beer, brats and live music from the likes of Naked Eyes. Don't lie, you know the band's signature tune, "(Always Something) There to Remind Me."

2. Hyde Park Jazz Festival -- Hop on the trolley and head to a variety of South Side venues for this 15-hour fest that's as much a showcase of the neighborhood as it is of the music. The sounds are solid though, with local standouts like Corey Wilkes and Willie Pickens making appearances.

3. Lynfred Winery Oktoberfest -- A pig roast, grape-stomping and barrel-rolling contests and German sing-alongs should be enough to get you here.

4. 57th Street Children's Book Fair -- Kicking off with a parade full of storybook characters like Curious George and the Stinky Cheese Man, this 20-year-old fest features a street full of thousands of books and educational displays. Watch out for live entertainment and author readings, too.

5. East Lakeview Neighbors' Oktoberfest -- Murphy's Bleachers hosts this celebration featuring live music, a silent auction, roast pig and more.
